Specialty  Contact  Lenses/SCLERAL

Picture
Scleral contact lenses are special contact lenses made from gas permeable lens material. they have given practitioners, like Dr. Truong,  the opportunity to fit even the most complex and severe corneal cases. If you have worn or failed in other types of contact lenses, this could be an option for you. Here at Crystal Vision Optometry Dr. Truong uses the EyePrintPro™ technology to individually customize and design these scleral lenses using a customized software to be personalized to your exact eye shape.

Custom scleral lenses are used to treat a variety of ocular conditions such as:
  • Keratoconus
  • Keratoglobus
  • Pellucid Marginal Degeneration
  • Refractive surgery patients (LASIK, Radial Keratotomy (RK), and PRK)
  • Corneal scarring from prior infections, herpes scarring, or trauma
  • Corneal transplant patients
  • Other forms of corneal irregularity
  • High astigmatism
Scleral lenses are used to treat ocular surface conditions, which involves severe inflammation or dryness of the ocular surface. The reason for this is because the scleral lens is filled with a non-preserved saline solution, which bathes the eye all day reducing eye irritation or discomfort that regular lenses cause.  It is made of the same FDA approved oxygen permeable materials and the fit vaults the cornea while landing on the sclera. There is a long history of the comfort, health and visual benefits of scleral lenses. Many patients with some of these conditions cannot even keep their eyes open without the use of their scleral lens. If you or a loved one suffers from any of these conditions, they may be a candidate for scleral lenses:
  • Extreme dry eye syndrome
  • Unresolving keratitis
  • Sjogren’s syndrome
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment
  • Stevens’Johnson syndrome

Dr. Truong  is trained and qualified to fit and manage scleral lens patients. Call us to schedule a contact lens evaluation today to see if scleral lenses are right for you!
